  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from Reading Granny -- Laughable error on p.190 of paperback edition : Obviously the proof reader was asleep on the job. Page 190 states that FDR defeated J. Edgar Hoover in the 1932 presidential election. This is news to those of us who are American readers and it brought a howl of laughter from me. The author mistook J. Edgar Hoover for Herbert Hoover. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Ashley -- Amazing Book! : Wow! This book is phenomenal! It is moving, thought-provoking, heart-wrenching, gripping, and so much more. Whenever I picked up "The Duchess", I was whisked back in time, and went on such an emotional journey with this novel. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amy J. Goddard -- A Different view : I was waiting for this book to come out and I got through it within 24 hours. As an avid British historical researcher, It was a very different twist on what is known if Wallis Simpson and their love affair and lead up to his abdication from the throne. This book is beautifully written, and gives a completely different take on the infamous woman that was Wallis. I do believe wholeheartedly that things weren’t completely as the royal family portrayed them to be, however, I do believe that Wallis was definitely happy to be an integral part of David’s life especially when giving her views and mingling with the Germans during World War II. All in all it was an excellent book and I would definitely recommend it. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- A story well told. : Having read a few stories about Wallis I feel it truly was a love match. Enjoyed every moment of this book. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- A new look at Wallis Simpson : I have a new understanding of who Wallis Simpson was and her relationship with king đź‘‘ Edward. Their relationship was intense and a true love story. The author gives insight into the possession Edward had toward Wallis. She was not interested in being queen as the media portrayed her. She definitely suffered at the hands of the royal family. Excellent story! ( Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2022 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Bonny -- Excellent condition : d used because it’s great condition and great price. Another newer story about Wallis Simpson and David. Nothing really new but I enjoy reading about the two. I am fascinated with these two and I really believe that people were unfair to both of them but especially her! Unfair. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Amazing Story : A fascinating read and understanding about three of the most interesting characters that many often discuss in very different lights. The untold stories of Wallis And Ernest Simpson and Edward VIII come together in this book and a creation of what their lives were like during the early and mid 1930s. A welcoming view into the overwhelming life of Wallis Simpson and the love triangle that could stand the test of time. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- A good read : Finally a book that presents Wallis Simpson is a normal light. Not the kinky power obsessed woman who pursued a weak man but an every day person most of us could relate to. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2021 )
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from John Mccabe -- A Mills & Boon version of Edward 8th abdication : Sorry - if you were looking for anything remotely factual of the crisis that Edward the 8th abdication or the influence that Walllis Simpson had in the crisis you are looking in the wrong place. Totally factually inaccurate, sloppy, sticky sweet version of the crisis and the parties involved. Even Barbra Cartland would cringe at some of the dialogue. Avoid ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 13, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Louise Emerson -- You think you know but you don't. : Everyone knows the story of what happened. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 25, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from L.c. -- Brilliant reading : Always thought there was more to the story that was told, Wallis as a gold digger, I believe also that Edward v111 never wanted the throne and Wallis was his way out unfortunately he didn't take in to account his exile that the crown and government put on him, I think that he believed he could still be useful to his king and Country, living in his beloved country, but the powers to be wouldn't allow it ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 26, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from suzanne augusta -- A very thought provoking insight : A fresh very different look at Wallis. The insight into her past was enlightening. Maybe not the “scheming monster who stole our king”- depiction of Queen mother an eye opener that could be very possible. As for “David”!- did he just use her to his own ends- although I do think he loved her. And, I have no idea whether he would have been a good or bad king! One thing I do think is that the Queen mother loved being a Queen. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 13, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mrs A -- A mixture of fact and fiction. : This book is a mixture of fact and fiction but primarily a historical book that is well written and researched. I am always interested in the royal family and their history and I now know so much more about Wallis Simpson and David. Wallis, called “that woman” by the late Queen Mother was ostracised by the royal family and the country but after reading this book I felt she was scapegoated. She never wanted to be Queen as much as David (Edward VIII once he ascended the throne) didn’t want to be King and prior to his abdication Wallis felt sure it was all a mistake and hoped Ernest her previous husband could rescue her from the drama unfolding. Intermingled between the chapters is the story of Wallis returning to London from France to attend David’s funeral where she had to come face to face with Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother after so many years. This is a lovely book and would recommend it. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 17, 2021 )
